Celebrating International Women’s Month- Our Favorite Southern Women
The saying goes…”Southern women are like whiskey in a teacup- beautiful on the outside and strong on the inside.”
Undoubtedly, being a Southern woman is something to be proud of, and we are happy to stand alongside some pretty incredible Southern women. In honor of National Women’s Month, we are discussing some of our favorite girls from the South!
Dolly Parton
You can’t really write a blog about Southern women and not include the Queen herself! We love Dolly Parton for being unapologetically herself. Also, Dolly is a champion for child literacy which makes us love her even more!
Southern Roots: Tennessee
Oprah Winfrey
The first lady of daytime television is a powerful Southern woman! Oprah’s daytime show ran for 25 years which is an incredible accomplishment.
Southern Roots: Mississippi
Rosalynn Carter
Her fierce advocation for mental health makes this former First Lady one of our favorite Southern ladies! Also, Jimmy and Rosalynn’s love story is one for the ages.
Southern Roots: Georgia
Sara Blakely
Every Southern woman knows the value in a pair of Spanx! Women everywhere thank you, Sara!
Southern Roots: Florida
Reese Witherspoon
We absolutely adore, Reese! Her clothing line, Draper James, is one of our favorites. If you haven’t picked up one of her “What Would Dolly Do?” t-shirts, what are you doing?
Southern Roots: Louisiana
Beyoncé
Who doesn’t love Beyoncé? Her new album drops this month and we are already loving “Texas Hold Em” so much so we cannot wait for the rest of Act II.
Southern Roots: Texas
Farrah Fawcett
I mean, talk about iconic! Farrah Fawcett’s blonde hair is what dreams are made of for us Southern women. The bigger the hair- the closer to Jesus, right?
Southern Roots: Texas
Faith Hill
She sure has come a long way from Star, Mississippi! Blasting Faith Hill and dancing around the kitchen is arguably, the best way to spend a Saturday morning.
Southern Roots: Mississippi
Jessica Simpson
Okay, so if you haven’t read Open Book, go order it on Amazon immediately! If you don’t love Jessica already, you will after reading her autobiography. Excuse me while I go rewatch Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica!
Southern Roots: Texas
Laura Bush
Talk about a girl’s girl! This former First Lady was a huge advocate for women’s rights as well as literacy and education. Her love for reading likely inspired her daughter, Jenna Bush Hager’s propensity for reading! We love her book club with the Today Show!
Southern Roots: Texas
Jennifer Garner
We truly think Jennifer Garner is America’s Sweetheart! Ben Affleck, who? Never could you have convinced a woman that she should wish to be thirty, but somehow Jennifer made us all want to be thirty, flirty, and thriving!
Southern Roots: Texas
Tammy Wynette
Thanks to Tammy, all of us Southern women know to “stand by your man.” Most of the time you can’t live with them, and you can’t live without them, either.
Southern Roots: Mississippi
There are plenty of other Southern women that we adore- namely our mamas and our grandmothers! If you ever want to peek into who made us who we are all you have to do is have a conversation with our moms. They are our inspiration for everything we do!
“Every woman’s success should be inspiration to another; we are strongest when we cheer each other on.” Serena Williams
